Today we bought seed starting supplies at Friedman's. I now have 2 trays of 72 starts each with 2 heater pads and dome and a ton of seed starter soil mix. Ready to Go!!!!!!!!! I bought seeds this year from 5 different companies! But I only bought the most unusual, rare heirloom varieties. I am becoming obsessed with growing melons. I'm not sure exactly why other than the fact that I adore eating melons but mostly they are hard to grow here so it's a challenge to my gardening skills. It is most exciting to try out varieties and if they pass the test, I save the seeds.

Greetings from the PG Gardeners...

Gardening in Polizzi Generosa, Petaluma California not Sicily. We're much closer to Penngrove than Palermo. It's Polizzi Generosa in honor of my gardening, cooking, wine and cheese making great grandfather Gitano Borgese.

We are Matthew and Joanne, the gardeners on this here property. Joanne will probably be doing most of the blogging and I'll be trying to make better use of my time to allow more gardening participation.

This winter brings us our third year of below normal rainfall. The recent storms brought our year-to-date rainfall to approximately 16 inches, just 70 percent of normal. We're going to be spreading a lot of newspaper and rice straw this season to conserve what moisture we have. Maybe sometime soon we'll fix the pond too...
